Exploring Warehouse Efficiency and Supply Chain Resilience at Workshop in Gipuzkoa (Spain)
A recent workshop held in Gipuzkoa (Spain) brought together logistics professionals, academics, and technology experts to discuss warehouse efficiency and the broader role of supply chains in driving sustainability and resilience. The event, titled “Cost Savings through Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)”, was co-organized by InLog Consultoría y Soluciones and Ingenieriak, the Official College of Industrial Engineers of Gipuzkoa.
The session featured expert presentations by Felipe Rebollo (InLog), Javier Pérez de Isla (JPisla Consultoría Logística, SL), and Alberto de la Calle, professor and researcher at the University of Deusto (partner of ReSChape).
Prof. Alberto de la Calle opened the session with a comprehensive view on the evolving role of supply chains. Drawing from the European ReSChape project, which focuses on reconfiguring supply chains for greater social impact, he outlined four key factors reshaping logistics worldwide:

Prof. Alberto de la Calle opened the session with a comprehensive view on the evolving role of supply chains. Drawing from the European ReSChape project, which focuses on reconfiguring supply chains for greater social impact, he outlined four key factors reshaping logistics worldwide:
Global disruptions, such as pandemics, geopolitical conflicts, and natural disasters.
Megatrends and global changes, including protectionism and increased energy demand.
New regulations, such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
Social responsibility, guided by the goal of improving the world for future generations.
Prof. de la Calle also shared findings from a local case study, conducted as part of a Final Degree Project in Industrial Organization Engineering at the University of Deusto. Supervised by Prof. de la Calle and led by student María Muro, the project developed a self-assessment tool for inventory management in industrial companies. The work earned recognition as the best final degree project of the 2023/24 academic year, highlighting areas for improvement in inventory reliability, staff training, and performance tracking.
The workshop continued with a presentation by Javier Pérez de Isla, who emphasized the importance of strategy in logistics optimization and positioned technology as a key enabler of change. Felipe Rebollo then explored the practical benefits of implementing a Warehouse Management System (WMS) to boost efficiency and reduce operational costs.
The event concluded with a roundtable discussion on logistics digitalization and warehouse optimization, where participants exchanged ideas and strategies for enhancing efficiency in warehouse operations.
This workshop marked another valuable external participation of ReSChape project partners, made possible thanks to the relevance and added value of the project’s results. We are proud to take part in these collaborative events, as they not only allow us to share our findings but also enrich the project itself. Engaging directly with professionals in the field fosters fruitful discussions and gives us the opportunity to hear their perspectives, ideas, and feedback — helping us to strengthen and refine our work even further.
